“I believe this is the most important thing that Herzl teaches you about Judaism; a sense of community. That we are all one, and this special connection brings us closer to G-d, closer to ourselves, and closer to each other.”

“Apart from learning my place within the Jewish community, Herzl helped me form opinions about important and pertinent Jewish topics, learn to work with other people, and taught me what it means to be a leader.”

Herzl establishes organic garden

Herzl Camp is establishing a small-scale, organic garden this summer.  The garden, known as Gan K’hilah or “community garden,” will provide campers and camp staff an understanding of the connection between Judaism and the land, an increased awareness of healthy eating and the growing problem of hunger in America and globally, as well as Israeli history through the lens of a kibbutz.  Gan K'hilah is funded with a sponsoring grant from BMO Harris Bank.

Herzl receives national grant to share Jewish educator with day school

Herzl Camp and the Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School (HMJDS) have been selected by the Foundation for Jewish Camp to pilot an innovative partnership to enrich and enhance Jewish education in both organizations. This cost-effective collaboration will provide a full-time Jewish educator at Herzl Camp for the first time!

Herzl chosen by Jewish Funders Network to launch teen philanthropy program

Herzl Camp will be piloting a teen philanthropy board for our B'yachad campers (6 weeks, 10th grade) for summer 2012. This smart giving curriculum is a perfert complement to our well-established community service program.  "We are so excited to train the next generation of Jewish philanthropists!" said Anne Hope, Camp Director.

Recycle your cellphone through Herzl, send a kid to camp!

The 2012 Ozrim are recycling cellphones for a cause!  Clean out your drawers, drop your cell at any Herzl event and Herzl will get cash for the Herzl Scholarship Fund!  Cellphones accepted at Tour Day, Visitors Day and all Bus Days.  Camp costs $117 a day and 26% of our campers need a Herzl scholarship to get to camp.  Your old cellphone can give the gift of camp to a kid in need so go clean those drawers!

Jewish Camping study shows long-term effect on Jewish engagement and participation

The first-ever statistical analysis of Jewish population studies from 26 cities in North America shows a clear and significant connection between attending Jewish camp as a young person and being engaged and active in Jewish life as an adult.  Jewish campers are more likely to light Shabbat candles, to belong to a shul, to give to a Jewish charity and 55% more likely to care about Israel than non-campers...

Israeli Campers bring Zionism to life at Herzl Camp

Only 20% of young American Jews report that they have an attachment to the State of Israel.  However, among Jewish campers that number jumps to 55%.  At Herzl Camp, we do more than learn about Israel, we bring Israeli campers to participate alongside their American counterparts.  We are building friendships that bridge oceans and ignite a passion for Israel in our American campers!
