Josh Levine
Josh Levine is in his second summer as Herzl Camp’s Executive Director. He previously served for ten years as Executive Director of Camp Alonim and oversaw the Brandeis-Bardin Campus, a pluralistic Jewish camping and retreat center in Southern California. While there, Josh grew enrollment to its largest-ever sessions and successfully launched new teen experiences, arts programs, and year-round community offerings. Josh is delighted to join the Herzl family and loves working with its dedicated staff and volunteers to ensure that the life-changing “Herzl Magic” connects, inspires, and serves kids, families, and communities for generations to come.
Josh is a graduate of the Foundation for Jewish Camp’s Executive Leadership Institute and was selected for the inaugural class of the Wexner Field Fellowship. He served on the Camp Advisory Council for Moving Traditions, was a Lekhu Lakhem Fellow of the JCC Association, and was chosen for the first Camp Educators Cohort of M2: The Institute for Experiential Jewish Education. Prior to joining the Jewish camp field, Josh was a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs and was an attorney and federal law clerk.
Danya Kornblum
Danya Kornblum is our Director of Camp Life & Culture. Danya oversees our summer counseling staf and the aspects of camp that support campers’ wellness and care. Danya works closely with our families throughout the year in order to best serve our campers’ needs. In all these efforts,
Since graduating from the University of Kansas, Danya has devoted her career to the Jewish community. A longtime senior leader of the Minnesota Jewish Community Center, Danya served most recently as the JCC’s Chief Operating Officer and previously was its Chief Programming Officer and Director of Youth and Camping. Throughout her career, Danya has advanced a customer-centered vision and created innovative programming, all in service of community.
Holly Guncheon

Our Advancement Director, Holly, has been with camp since 2007. Holly manages all our fundraising and friendraising activities as well as our communications and marketing efforts.
Gary Kibort

Operations Director, Gary Kibort, works behind the scenes to manage camp’s finances, properties, and security. Gary’s 15 years with camp in a variety of roles ensures that campers and staff are in a safe and secure environment.
Michael Arato
Michael Arato, our Director of Program Innovation, oversees the overall camp program, ensuring ample opportunities for camper participation and growth. Michael also focuses on staff engagement, enjoyment, and success.
Michael comes to us from Beber Camp, where he was a longtime summer staff member and served as Division Leader, CIT Leader, Director of Staff Life, Counselor, and Waterfront Specialist. He also worked at Camp Ben Frankel as its Director of Imagination, helping to develop and lead Zoom-based camp programming in 2020. Michael is a graduate of The Ohio State University where he was an Eminence Fellow.

Jessica Freeman, APRN, CNP

Director of Health Services, Jessica Freeman, a pediatric nurse practitioner, is on site providing care in our Marpeah (Health Center) throughout the summer. Jessica also works with you in advance of camp to a create care plan that will work for your child in the camp setting.
Hannah Gilfix

Hannah grew up at Herzl Camp as a camper and summer staff and continued her camping experience as a Fellow at the Foundation for Jewish Camp before returning to Herzl as our Assistant Camp Director, Staff and Camper Life. Her experience in the national Jewish camping community informs her passion for camp!
Rabbi Justin Held

Our Director of Jewish Education, Rabbi JP Held, leads Jewish learning at Herzl Camp and Minnesota Hillel. JP’s shared, full-time role at both organizations, creates a seamless education program for young adults in the Twin Cities and beyond.
Jacqui Kalin

Our Staff Life and Development Coordinator, Jacqui, hires, trains and supports our summer staff to ensure they have the tools they need to the create Herzl magic each summer. Jacqui created and leads our Staff Advisory Council (SAC), which is made up of selected new and veteran staff members, to empower the voice, vision, and experience of the staff.

Beth Shapiro

Beth supports camp with mental health consulting services during the summer. A private practice psychotherapist in Minneapolis, Beth coaches staff around providing extra support for campers with mental and emotional health needs.
Brad Spafford

Brad manages our facility in Webster, Wisconsin which covers 120+ acres and includes over 60 buildings. From snowplowing to painting, Brad’s the guy!
