Planning, followed by planning – 2nd Session Kadima & B’Yachad – July 6th
Evenin’ folks! (late evenin’ that is)
It was another stellar day at Machaneh! Unfortunately, your pal Tommy didn’t get out and about camp nearly as much as I usually do, so I don’t have my normal collection of observations from wandering through Chugim, Chofesh, or Tochnit Erev (though the Kadima Open on the “Golf Course” was plenty hard to resist).
Instead, today was all about planning, planning, and more planning.
One of the things I love most about camp is that the magic doesn’t just happen. Behind every surprise, every adventure, and every tradition is a whole lot of people thinking ahead, organizing details, and making sure those moments become memories. Today’s meetings were all about some of those moments.
We’ve got Bikkurim coming one of these days (don’t ask me when…it’s one of the biggest surprises of the summer, and campers absolutely lose their minds when it happens). We’ve also got a canoe trip on the horizon for our Kadima campers, an out-of-camp Avodah (service/volunteer work) and float trip for B’Yachad, plus a couple more surprises that I’ll keep under wraps for now. I have no doubt your camper will come home and tell you every last detail (might be in January at the Dinner Table – do you capitalize that? – I’m tired).
As much fun as today was behind the scenes, tomorrow is one of my favorite days of the summer. It’s Yom Yisrael!
The entire camp will be wrapped in blue and white as we celebrate the people, culture, history, and spirit of Israel. There will be special programs, music, food, and plenty of ruach from morning until night. I have a feeling I’ll have a lot more to write about tomorrow.
So I’ll just leave you with, it was a busy day, a happy day, and one that quietly sets the stage for some unforgettable moments still to come.
Anyway, thank you for sending your kid to Herzl Camp!
All is well. Safely rest.
,לילה טוב
Tommy
