Session 1 – Day 10: B I K K U R I M

I said Jewish camp, not dewish camp!

It was another cold and dewey day here at Machaneh Paradise yet, laughter fills the air, games are still being played, world league was able to run a full gambit of playoffs (1st session championship Sunday is on the horizon). Amanut was buzzing with friendship bracelet mastery! Thanks to the intermittent dewing, our waterfront staff adjusted so nicely and had a beach volleyball competition up on the Teyelet. We had new sand put in this summer and the campers have been loving it.

Tochnit Boker was Shabbat song prep and services prep. The theme this coming Shabbat is Israel Shabbat and our Israeli staff is leading the campers and teaching them the songs and ways that Shabbat is done on a kibbutz or moshav. They’re amazing!

Our friends from Camp Butwin said goodbye today, and I’m very proud to say that they left Herzl Camp having had skipped around the room in the Chadar, learned the Ozo dance, and in two short days were able to master all of the funky hand motions during Birkat Hamazon. They’ve been touched by the Herzl magic and I’m sure we’ll see a few more of them next summer…in Herzl SWAG!

And now for the exciting news… it’s first session BIKKURIM (color wars for those of you new to the Herzl family). It was launched tonight at the flag circle with a pretend nabbing of yours truly followed by a ruach filled teams rally – outfits were changed into appropriate colors and the activities ensued…we had:

Soccer (clap)

Ultimate (clap)

Art contest (clap)

Relay (clap)

The theme was Mario Bros.

Blue Bowser won…I have no idea what or who a Blue Bowser is. But I know this…the campers and staff alike loved it and you’ll hear all about it (from the back seat, in February, when they see something that reminds them of BIKKURIM!).

All is well, safely rest.

Thanks for sending your kid to Herzl Camp
