Session 1 – Day 8: Proud and showing it.

Good evening Herzl family,

I had some meetings in Minneapolis this morning at the Herzl Camp office and jumped in the car as soon as I could because I couldn’t wait to get back on this hallowed ground.

I always find it interesting being away for not even 24 hours, I feel like I miss so much and I don’t even think people notice when I’m gone,  but one or two people will say welcome back because every single person here plays an integral part in the symphony of Camp. Everyone seems to be their little piece of this jigsaw puzzle and when they’re on a day off or doing something that takes them off Camp, I feel like that part of the jigsaw puzzle is noticeably missing. But the other side of that coin, and a wonderful side of that coin, is that it keeps going… smiles stay wide, the laughter echoes through camp,  the competitions keep happening, and Devils Lake stays churned up with the active campers frolicking in the swim area, sailboats tacking across the short horizon and water skiers cutting up a wake in the distance.

It’s camp!!!

This afternoon we were joined by 25 new faces, visitors for a couple days from Camp Butwin (a day camp in St. Paul) to show them what Herzl Camp is all about and hopefully plant the seed for some future Herzl campers.

Our awesome first session campers welcomed to them with open arms and a whole heck of a lot of Ruach! You could tell they were proud to show off their camp muscles. The songs were a little louder, the chants were a little stronger, and the rules were a little more followed. It made me think… as a parent,  I always wanted to make sure that my kids were well behaved and polite when they were away from us. And let’s be honest, some of those nights at home when you’re wondering if that could ever happen? Then you bump into somebody and they say “wow your kid is so well behaved” or something very nice about your kids. Well let me tell you Herzl Camp parents and families… be proud because your Herzl Camper shined today. They do us proud!

All is well, safely rest.

Thanks for sending your kid to Herzl Camp
